| I got my first tattoo in December 1999, at Dragon Moon Tattoo in Glen Burnie, MD. A local friend had recommended them and I was pretty happy with it; it's cello-type "f-holes" on my back, after the 1924 Man Ray photograph featuring the model Kiki. ===== When it came time for my next tattoo in March 2006, I decided Glen Burnie was too far to drive for the little piece I wanted, so I went to Fatty's Custom Tattooz in Dupont Circle, where I was charged an exorbitant price for my itty-bitty 15-minute paw print, which is a memorial tattoo for one of my cats - the first loved one I ever lost, who became ill suddenly in January 2006 and had to be put to sleep.In July 2006, my old kitty Toadstool died. It had been coming for a long time, so it was easier, but it still hurt. I decided to get her paw print in New York City, figuring the competition would make things a bit cheaper. Sure enough, it was cheaper, but I'm not as happy with it. I hope not to need any more paw prints for a long time, but as my kitties die I will end up with a trail of paw prints down my leg. The first two are on my upper left outer thigh. ===== I've got two more tattoos rattling around in my head - the ILY handshape, because of my lifelong involvement in the deaf community, including as a profession; and something that my wife designs for our 10-year anniversary. I don't like name tattoos, or tattoos inked for a brand-new relationship, but I think 10 years is a long enough portion of my life to commemmorate it with a tattoo. So it'll be small, something she designs, and probaby on my hip. Not sure where the ILY handshape is going - somewhere on the right side of my body, most likely. |
