ive been vegetarian for 8 years and vegan for the past 4 months, giving up cheese was definitely the hardest things, but we have a great vegan shop in atlanta that sells sooo many different kinds of vegan cheese and some of them are really good! plus you can make fake cheese with nutritional yeast and soy milk and its really delicious!
this one's my favorite, especially the mozarella: http://www.cosmosveganshoppe.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=FYHC&Category_Code=CF&Product_Count=18

I've verified with the manufacturer that all ingredients are plant-derived or synthetic, and this stuff rocks. Use it in place of antibacterial soap, etc.

I have extremely sensitive skin and normally have to use soap without fragrance or any additives, normally Tom's ALL Natural or the equivalent. Satin is now my new soap of choice.

Just got the vegan flower awesomeness a couple days ago. I heart it. The artist was nice enough to double check all the ingredients for me to make sure my tattoo was really going to be a vegan tattoo.

Just wanted to drop in and tell everyone hi. Glad to be able to join in this group. I have recently, within the last year, took the plunge into the vegetarian lifestyle and have never felt better about myself. I grew up in the "tradition" meat-and-potatoes family setting so it came as a slight shock to my family when I decided to make this lifestyle switch. I look forward to further conversations with you guys.

Oh and talking of cheese.... I miss it too, not enough to crave it, just enough to be disappointed at the huge range of cardboard-tasting alternatives in the UK. Best I've found is 'Scheese' mozarella or cheddar flavour... I live in hope that some vegan food manufacturer will one day allow me to have a nice plate of melted cheese on toast with brown sauce, lol! Mmmmmmmmmm...!!

Hi all, hello from another vegan!
That's a really cool idea to have 'cruelty free' tats, I love it!
I've been veggie for 18 years, vegan for 5 years.. absolutely no regrets :-)

i have the little abstract bunny cruelty free logo on my inside wrist and i love it. i have tons of ppl ask me about my tattoo's and this i always just tell them that its a reminder of being cruelty free and then they will ask a few questions. i find this very nonconfrontational and they leave feeling like vegetarians aren't ppl who will yell at them for eating meat.

if you live in detroit (i live in flint so i know sucky) there is a restaurant called szechuan empire on 14mile and haggerty that serves vegan meat alternatives. they used to have their own veg rest, called mei ling but they closed but they still serve all the mei ling foods at szechuan empire. it's in that little shopping plaza. i too love chicago, the chicago diner rocks!

I wish i wouldve been veg since childhood like you, thats awsome :) Unfortunately i grew up in the "traditional" family and had to break old habits. I do intend on raising my children be veggies/vegans ...but i do accept they will be their own people and might rebel..who knows though.
Chicago is awsome...your lucky to live there! Im up near crummy Detroit :P! Welcome to the community...im new too...but...welcome! lol <3

Hey all, does anyone here have any ink directly related to your veganism/vegetarianism? Im gettin mine on June 29th and id love to see other peoples designs to pass the time before mine. :) Im still a fairly new Vegan,...only about a year since being omni unfortunately but i know myself and know this is something that has changed me and made me a better person, and i will never go back to being blind again. Besides that though, lets see the ink people!!

Bonus query:
The tattoo im getting is going to be rather large, and on my forearm...do you think tattoos help or harm our message? Im a total tattoo lover obviously...but i wonder if a gaint tattoo on my arm might detour someone in the future who mightve given my veganism some serious thought...into someone passing me off as a freaky weirdo and associating veganism with that. I know its a lousy way to think...but with how our society is now...its truth unfortunately. I want this tattoo for myself...but i also want to do good with it when it comes to informing others when they inquire about it. <3

Vegetarian for way over 20 years... but Geman style, which really means I am a strict vegetarian, who, besides organic, really free range eggs, and the occasional pizza with very little mozarella, do not eat any othe animal ingredients.

Oh... and I do not see vegans as a "higher form" of vegetarianism, just one that fights a good fight for animal rights.

However, although concerned... it's not MY battle, because I am more concerned with civil rights movements.

Hope that doesn't put anybody off.

Looking forward to participate here.

All the best

What brand was it?

Some are terrible (taste like the rind off brie). Scheeze i hate!

Cheezly (Redwood ones) are pretty good. You can get melting ones too.
They're full of fat and salt though!

The tofu based soft cheeses are normally yummy too...

And this is a kick ass group ;)

Congrats on becoming Mod.... it was my decision. Sorry to spring it on you without letting you know first. I was dealing with some problems and I figured you would be best suited to take over for me while i dealt with the things I needed to deal with. I see you have taken to the position well and I appreciate it. I will just sit in the bleachers and let you do your thing. I unfortunetaly cant keep up with many of my vegan affairs these days. Thanks for taking the time to appreciate all that we do for others.

how the hell did i become moderator of this group anyway?
*clears throat*.."i just wanna thank all the little people...wait, thats me...
(even better im ike the mayor of munchkin land, falalalala lalalala... )

my first order as newly discovered moderator of this group..is a large mango smoothie, not for my own personal gain of course... but to toast all of my fellow vegetarians and vegans out there in tattoo land.

a toast to all of us who have sacrificed for the cuter fuzzy and scaley critters of the world. to those of us who have gagged on un perfected artifical meat and dairy products. to those that have cursed the wool sweater on the rack or the leather uppers on that sweet pair of shoes.to those whos hearts and principles out weigh the glutany and commercialism of the world.to those that laugh at the irony of soylent green, and that respect the life that surrounds us. to those people that realize the creators of weapons are the ones that should be faced with looking down the barrel of the gun not the innocent faces that man has turned weapons against to feed their fat bellies.
to all of you i say raise your smoothies for you deserve kudos and respect for your strong will, love and determination.

now will somwone get me a straw....

i've had some really delicious vegan cheese recently. it was soft like monterey jack cheese consistency & it was almond, so it tasted all gourmet. or at least i thought so :P now that i know stuff like that exists, i have no sadness about leaving dairy cheese behind. plus if you can't find good vegan cheese in your area, i have seen a few recipes to make it. i've made vegan cream cheese myself & it was good. next i might try to make some almond cheese. yum!

i never had a problem making the switch either.... altho sometimes the smell of a tasty baked good forces the shaking of a fist..
in my experience most people have to jump the cheese hurdle. i know i found when i went vegetarian i ate more cheese, i have friends who cant get over that,..stupid stringy goodness....i mean really the cardboard-esk greyish orange cheese substite doesnt seem to draw in the crowds.
my theory is do the best you can, dont let people or yourself get you down....cus frankly theres always something
