its called the drum kit from hell, its a add on to ezdrummer, sampled from real kits so the drums sound very realistic. actually some bands have used it to track albums with and no one has known the difference.

It's not cheating if the beats made are actually musical and not just the same stock beats sped up to 360bpm. I'm not saying go crazy technicality wise and make something that no real drummer could actually pull off, but more than simple blasts and break patterns.

Old School:
Morbid Angel
Death
Carcass
Napalm Death
Nasum
Bolt Thrower

New School:
Between The Buried And Me
Cephalic Carnage
Dying Fetus
Meshuggah
Decrepit Birth

A good mix of Death Metal and Grind, some of the newer school ones will need a few listens before you really get into them. They all tend to be very technical musically.

Honestly, if the artist knows what they are doing, you would have no idea that they are using one. There are so many tricks like slight randomization of velocity and milliseconds of off time that you don't out right notice, but subconsciously pick up on that makes it feel more analog. If the mixing engineer knew how and wanted to, it could sound exactly like live drums.

topic: Drummer of Decapitated Passes away........
posted: Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:05

Drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka of the Polish extreme metal band DECAPITATED passed away in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. He was 23 years old.

Vitek and DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) were hurt in an accident earlier in the week involving DECAPITATED's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Both musicians reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).

According to the Polish Internet portal Onet.pl, Vitek underwent trepanation, a form of surgery in which a hole is drilled or scraped into the skull, and was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment.

Covan's family released a statement yesterday (Thursday, November 1) that the vocalist's condition had improved. At the time, the vocalist was still said to be at a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.

- Note from ChristButcher -
I had the privilege of hanging out with Decapitated for a few days at Milwaukee Metalfest a few years ago, and I must say Vitek was one of the most genuinely great people I had ever met.

My sincere condolences go out to his family and especially to his brother, Waclaw ``Vogg`` Kieltyka.

If you're only choice is a drum machine..... do what you gotta do. But I personally HATE the sound, and will never buy an album that has a drum machine present. I just can't stand the sound personally.

Good example:
Infinited Hate "Revel in Bloodshed"
current and ex-members of Sinister doing an album very reminiscent of Cross the Styx era death metal. Awesome music!!! But I can't listen to it because it has a drum machine............. it just gets under my skin!! Then they record "Heaven Termination" with a real drummer added to the fold and BAM, one of the sickest old school death albums in my opinion.

But, as I said.......... if you can't find a drummer you shouldn't hold back from creating sick music of course.

Would certainly NOT call it cheating though!
