Although choppers are'nt really my scen it sure would be nice to see some one build one with something other than a Harley lump. |

I picked up an 82 Suzuki GS1100GK (shaft, touring) a couple of months ago. I've stripped off the fairing and touring stuff and my next plans are for freight train headlight, fabbing a solo seat and ditching the tailpiece and fender for something different. Custom paint, too. It's not going to be a bobber exactly, but somethingmore along that lines. I like unique bikes and not really into big raked showy choppers... I think I want it to look more like an old war bike or something without screwing up the handling of it. I guess the GKs are really comfortable for long rides, and those old GS engines are bullet proof. |

Anyone doing a low budget custom bike build? I talking no fancy tools, home garage style customizing. I'm curantly violating an 81 Virago 750. It will get a bit of a bobber style but I will keep it as street legal as possible. Oregon has a lot of rain and cops. If the pics don't come through then you can view then at my photo album. |

I guess it depends on what sort of bike you're after. If you want something sporty I'd say go for a Jap four cylinder engine - GSXR, YZF, FZR, CBR, that kinda thing.
If you want something with a bit of torque but still on the sporty side I'd say go for one of the Jap V Twins - loads more reliable than the Ducati.
If you're after a cruiser I suppose it's difficult to look past using some sort of Harley engine. I honestly don't know much about them cos they're just not my cup of tea.
Anyone else care to add anything?
