Got this done at White Tiger in Rochester, NY. Jimmy Class' work.

It was for my grandpa. It's a tribute piece with his birth year and bowling league nickname. He never used to get strikes but always picked up spares so hence the name "Steady Eddie". He was also in the Marines so the girl is wearing Marine dress blues. He's still alive btw. What's the point of tributing someone if they're 6 ft. underground??

Filled with Health, Happiness and Prosperity! I'm so glad that
You're on the mend.

Thanks for the updates, D.C. I'm so glad to hear that Jerry is home to recover. Hospital's will just make you sicker! As for the response. To expect more would only be setting myself up for disappointment. This is the attitude that would believe this art can be learned by books and tools not by apprenticeship, time and tuition.
I'm on the road but I will be back in Carolina by weeks end. I'll keep in touch. Capn'Rob

Glad my recommendation got you to order it. It really is a great book. It's amazing how ahead of his time that he was. There were many times that I laughed out loud. I can't wait until I can get myself a copy of Hori-Smoku.

Finished reading Tattoo Master. Great book. I liked how Jerry always knew there was something to learn. I too would have liked to have met him.

After reading your post I just ordered this book. I love Sailor Jerry work and plan on getting more on me in the future. I already have a plan to get a Sailor Jerry heart in the middle of my chest in a few weeks. His lines were so clean and I love the colors he used in his work.

I just finished it, and yeah, it's wild how he was confident he was gonna live forever even the day before he died. I have to say, everything I thought I knew about tattooing, I am reevaluating now that I have read the words of the man himself.

I'm just about done reading Sailor Jerry Collins, American Tattoo Master, and I have to say it is one of the most comprehensive tattoo books I've ever read. I'm sure I'm the last in here to read it, but If I'm not and you haven't read it, you should. It's amazing. Thanks.

Hey all,
New to the site and to the group. I'm not a tattoo artist, just an avid collector. I'm currently working on a sailor jerry sleeve, it's coming along pretty sweet too. I only have a few of the pics posted in my photos, but more will follow as I finish it off, only 3 more small pieces and background coloring to go! Hope you like...

Side note: Disregard the dragon, he's history....and sorry for the crappy pics, I'll get some hi-res ones as I finish this up in the next few weeks.

There's been many Sailor Jerry's in the tattoo world over the years, but the most influential was Sailor Jerry Collins. The second is Sailor Jerry Swallow, who is probably the one you met, he lives in New Glasgow Nova Scotia. At any rate it's still pretty cool.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. Does anyone have any advice on color whip shading? I can whip black pretty good but color, thats a different story. Anyone have any suggestions on brands of inks? or cutting them down a bit with water? anything?

I wish I had customers that are maore into the bold, heavy outlined traditionals but here in germany most of them want to have some silly artsy-fartsy shit ......they don´t understand what a tattoo should look like ....damn
But hey .....better doing kanji than flipping burgers and it`s apleasure for me to see stuff like that .
Ken, I definately want to get tattooed by you !
