just joined. love the topic. tattooing out of the home. its def not sterile. but, people should take the appropriate apprenticeship to educate oneself in the health departments regulations and sterile practices. nuthin like someone standing over your shoulder tellin you to change your gloves. but, scratchers should give up and find a 9-5. if u have no ability for art, if u have no ambition to learn, and all u do is hack jobs for money. give up. cuz it always comes down on the ones who scrubbed to tubes, gave away extensive free tattoos, memorized your teachers favorite foods from every fast food joint, and lived off very few tips for months. we worked for this. HARD! your like the preachers touchin little boys, make the entire religion look bad.

I agree with the burningmonktat2.this is a group that should be moderated to who joins.of course scratchers will wanna join,so they can make themselves feel like they arent scratchers.if your gonna tattoo out of your house,i feel it needs to be set up totaly studio style.at the same time, there are tons of scratchers who work in shops.got a shop by me,who hires every scratcher he can get his hands on.scumbags knodding out on people they are so high.just fuckin idiots who have no fuckin business tattooing or whatever you want to call it,that they do.i dont want there cover ups because it also gives good tattooers bad names because of these scumbags.if you know you suck, stop tattooing!!!!keep tattooing for the real artists!if i offended anyone, too bad!!

so my question is are the people of this forum justifying people tattooing out of their house or trying to stop it which? from what ive read it appears that there are a few people on this forum that are in the scratcher category. Why were they permitted to come into this group its almost as though its being condoned

Regardless of talent, training, or experience, tattooing must be performed n a safe and clean enviroment. If a studio can be built at home and sectioned off with floor to ceiling walls and proper handwashing areas, it should be ok. But setting up in a kitchen or living room is wrong. You may be able to avoid cross contamination per say from one client to the next, but there are several strains of bacteria that are found in homes that are not found in tattoo shops. Your putting your clients at risk. If your not in a clean room enviroment, dont do it. Plain and simple. It is not about working from home. Most conventions are the dirtiest places on earth. No walls, people walking around kicking up the airborne crap. If I do tattoo at a show, i tell each and every client the risks are increased at conventions. Anyhow, my 2 cents.

i live in a town with too many shops and too many artists, very competitive, even when you are in a shop your collegues are trying to fuck you up or talk shit.

so really the only place to work is from home,in my case i have a local shop that lets me rent his space when i have work coming in,i am on the outs with three artists in town, one is a shop owner who deleted me for no reason other than i was taking work on,i can deal with that,he owned the shop.

the other two i speak of are scratchers, they are in a shop and are financally backed, they are also the shop's drug dealers, they have below par work and are building a bad reputation.

but htat's their problem.i got out.

my point is,even shops house scratchers....

we have all been in a situation where we worked from home or out of a shoe box or whatever,it's part of this biz seems like and really you should not do it,but you know as well as i do,with toss-it tudes and pre-made needles, disposible eveything, you can be clean enough soas not to fuck someone up.

I dont believe just because an artist works from their house makes them a scratcher. I am in a group of friends that are trying to make PA a state that you have to get a license to tattoo but in the mean time just because someone has a studio out of their house doesnt make them a scratch artist! I have seen a few people that work from home that were bad ass tattoo artists.
