i have actually seen video of the procedure. and wow. apparently there is a low to nonexistent side affect ratio. the metal is implant grade and the procedure is done.... well to be honest i have seen with laser and with scalpel. |

clamps tend to cause more damage than good. it been proven to cause tissue trauma. not to mention the fact it constricts blood flow and causes for a more dense area to pierce. there is no need to use them. as far as us being hacks or show offs. how is someone who can pierce with no tools a hack. i understand if you want to attack people for being different its human nature but @ least be intelligent about it! |

personally, from the piercy's point of view, i like it better when the piercer does NOT use forecepts. it hurts less and i feel more comfortable. i have had my septum done twice, the first time they used no clamps or anything, and the piercing didnt hurt at all. but the second time it was done the used clamps and it hurt like a bitch. |

ok.. here i go. i hardly use clamps ever!! only on select few piercings. i have been piercin for 10 years in a shop and wazz in a shop apprintancin 3 years b4 that. i have done freehand for 6 years and have not poked myself once YET doin so. i belive wat ever ur more comfortable wit is the best for u. im not sayn either way is safer cause if u never use clamps they feel a lil wierd. i dont belive that using clamps is cleaner. if anything its more dirty. and i dont do it freehand to show off, i do it cause i like the hands on feeling. 90% of people say,"the clamps are the worst part" so i guess wat im sayn is do wat ur more comfortable wit and fuk every1 elses opinion. |

I don't know why no one is posting here anymore but I don't care much, either.
Moving on.
I use my clamps for (almost) every piercing I do. With the exception of pa's and the like of course. (That just seems wrong to try to use clamps on a PA. I'm female and that makes me wince. )
I do not have clamps that have the ratchets. I hate those things. You kinda have to twist the f*ing clamp to get it to let go. F that. I use little rubber bands. Not all the time, but mostly. I don't like getting my hands near the needles for the simple fact that 95% of my customers either try to jump out of my chair or they grab my hands. I've been piercing professionally for less than a year but I've been piercing myself and friends since I was 13. I can freehand but I choose not to. |

It could be that you may be allergic to the material used to pierce you. I found out the hard way that I developed an allergy to stainless steel.
I had a piercing for 6 months and it would never heal. It hurt more than day one and nothing I did helped. I tried the sea salt soaks. I tried H2Ocean. I tried several other products which will remain nameless. Nothing worked.
Try the sea salt baths. If that doesn't work, talk to your piercer about perhaps changing it with a different material. PTFE perhaps...

i recommend 1 cup sea salt in a 20 gal bath of warm water for 3 days. sit and relax for 1 hour. the sea salts will heal and sooth as you relax. wear loose clothing, and check with your piercer if your irritation persists. most of my clients for this type of piercing get set on a fri night so they are all ste for work on mon. not a hard piercing to heal or perform.
hope all works out for you. |

Its day three and the guy who pierced me said that it would probably stop hurting by now... it hasnt it hurts just as bad as day 1. Also when I first got it done it didnt bleed or anything, day two it didnt either, and now day 3 it started to bleed when I went to clean it. I dont know if this is normal or not and I'm scared of infection. Can anyone tell me how to really take care of this piercing cuz I've been doing everything the guy told me to do! |

I've been piercing at Miller Cotton's Tattoos & Body Piercing in Worcester, MA for about 2.5 years now. Been piercing friends, etc. for a little over 6 years, and been play piercing since I was in the 6th grade.
Had an early fascination with needles since I was constantly in the hospital growing up with asthma since I was 6...i got stuck A LOT.
Anyway, I've completed 3 college level biology/anatomy and physiology courses, and I constantly research the field for new and improved methodology, and try to attend as many courses on advanced techniques that I can. Most of my learning involved self-inflicted piercings. I do all of my own work, and have a few dedicated regulars that let me perform advanced techniques once I'm ready...as they tend to remain calm and not freak out if things take a bit longer due to it being a first time on someone else.
Anyway, that's me;) |

Um, that's a pretty stupid quote to let slip. Some piercings are impossible to use clamps on, and if you're using clamps then you're causing excess trauma to the area. Amphallangs, Dydoes, PA, some medusa piercings...a LOT of these can't be done with clamps.
So, why don't you take some time and educate yourself instead of making yourself look like a retard. |

id get one at a time. getting two piercings in such close proximity raises your risk for infection. basically if one gets infected the other one will to. so its best to take it slow when your dealing with your valuables. thats just my professional opinion. |

That Is a bold statement for some one that has been piercing for three years. Perhaps its time you actually sat down and thought about what you are saying before you type. |

I started at "Stephens Fine Arts" in Erie, PA. After what will be left as "a difference of opinion" I left that shop. No other shops in the area were hiring so I started my own little studio named Zombie House. Then I ended up moving back to Ocala, FL and am currently employed at Fat Kats Artistry. As of febuary 3rd of 2007, i've been piercing for 3 years. |

I use my tools for all piercings even ear lobes. People that go at it freehand are either hacks, show-offs or both. I take the first statement back. I don't use forceps for corseting. It's much easier to hold on to the tissue by using just my hand because of how much you have to pierce through. |

In my humble opinion I believe that the septum on girls looks best with a 16g 3/8 Cirular Barbell. Also in answer to your other question, it takes about the same as most piercings to heal. Very simular to your nostril. |

I feel that piercers need to use there tools and do very limited free hand piercings. I've been taught both ways and can do any piercing if asked to freehand but I have chosen over the past few years to use my tools more and more often. I feel that the safety of myself and my clients is important enough to try to protect them and my self from getting stuck. After gettting some medical training a few years ago I really valued the importance of using my forcepts and the safety that they provided me and my clients. You wouldn't ask a tattoo artist to put down his machine and poke you with a single needle and rub the ink into your skin like a caveman. So why act like a caveman and shove needles into people without your tools. It's cleaner, safer and can provide a little more protection than using your hands as the tools. It takes only one slip to make a lifetime of suffering for you and your client. It's about safety not just doing something different.

Body Mark Tattoo ( is the last shop I was @ Im still on maternity leave) San Diego Ca http://www.myspace.com/sickgrrl I've been piercing for 10yrs.I started my apprentiship by paying a friend of a friend $1500 in 96. The guy's name was Mike and he was a definate rockstar he would never give me his last name he just went by Mike the Spike. He was much older than me and would continually leave me to my own vices .when it came to piercing I had to learn alot on my own and clean alot of his shit. It was a bad experiance especially since the guy wasn't big wasting supplys and would use the same pair of glove during a piercing. I went away feeling like I spent alot of $ and learned nothing. Later in 98 I went thru a very brief but free second appreniship. This was great for me and opened me up to alot of new things like implants and cross-contamination and sterility. Sammy (Body Graphics) was a great help he taught me alot in a very short time. He like everyother piercer I had so far incountered had a very rockstar attitude. I learned from my past 2 apprentiships that I never want to have an attitude with my customers. And I don't know everything and I never will, I will always strive to learn more about piercing and the human body. I have already medical classes and will continoue in the Fall. I will always keep on piercing because it is my passion. I will also always be open to new and fresh Ideas and continue to build good friendships with other piercers.
