It is definitely personal preference, but if we don't talk about it, we don't learn, ya dig? My theory is that traditional needs to be simple and bold. but that doesn't mean throw out ALL detail. I'm just not sure if using the 9s-14s for lines is a product of your art or if your tattoos are a product of the thick lines, you know what I'm saying? I use everything from 3s-9s for outlines depending on the piece. but mainly for traditional I use 7s-8s. and never double pass the outline. |

>where are you buying your needles at? are you using bugpins?
i get em from unimax and no theyre standard long tapered. i only use them when i feel its necessary. if there is any sort of detail ill use an 8 or something. only on bigger traditional stuff ill use a 14, when stuff has a teeny weeny skinny outline but should have a bigger one, i feel it takes away from the whole piece. also with 14s, one pass gets a clean thick line so no need to double line anythign and risk it not being all the same consistancy.
i dunno, i guess it all just personal preference.
the pic below is all lined 14 single pass. |

>Mike thats CRAZY! You should try using smaller groupings for lines. Your tattoos look nice, but your line weight is crazy thick. Don't get me wrong, I'm not like a fine line guy or anything. But Sailor Jerry used 7s for most of his lines. Why do you go for the huge lines like that? sure they stay steady but it really limits the amount of detail you can achieve. Just a thought, take from it what you will.
My 14 liners are not as big as you would think. They sound crazy huge but they're only a teeny tiny bit bigger than 8s. Just feel and look a lot more consistant. Heal real nice too. |

ive never worked with anything that huge man. thats like a fork huh? as for the coils id say 8 or 10 should be fine, ozone will agree that alot has to do with the machine. i make most of my machines 6 wraps, but theyre real powerful (i line loose 9s and 14 liners around 4.3 volts) because of the way the abar sits and hits the coil tops as well as getting the right spring tension.

Classic colors myself. I have used in the past and I say the past like Feburary. MOMs, Starbright, National , Stable, Dermaglow, Fantasia, skin candy , never tat wax, dudes I could name lots. Use a few from Starbright like the white and skin tones and a few of the red and blue colors that classic don,t make but so far the best I have found thanks to Dave Steele ,Joe Thompson, and Braden Kendal Classic is the way to go. I have herd to try the yellow O f the company you want to test out but I have fount it is worth it to try the tried and true from back in the day white, red, yellow, blue, and well black but we all know what black we prefer. |

I just got a hold of a couple of Dermaglos colors, so far I like 'em but I've only used them on two tattoos, I been doing a lot of black and grey. Braden Kendall did a panther head on my hand, he uses classic, and I love the way it came out. |

Dermaglo - alot their inks are really good i haven't had a problems with any of their inks
Fantasia inks - the red is good and their yellows is too..their brown is shit but thats just me |

More texture in the skull. browns will help. The back ground could use a light blue for the sky and the best color in the world in the moon. Maybe orange in the roses. That is just what I would do. Oh yeah and more black. |
