topic: Microdermals
posted: Sat Jul 18, 2009 17:27
im not sure about how much this will help or not. i've done a couple microdermals on fingers and they have healed out rather well. after the procedure i took a piece of sterile gauze (the lined kind, not with alot of threads to get tangled) and folded it into a square and then wrapped it around the finger for the first night. after that i had them place a band aid on it to keep it from getting snagged during daily moving around. even with alot of precautions to allow the anchor to 'set', its still a pretty hard spot to keep from getting irritated. with changing gloves numerous times during the day...i cant imagine that its going to be easy. i have them on the top of my wrists (had them for over a year now) and with all the gloving i do each day the only way i can keep them sane is by leaving the top off...so all i have unless im going out or something is a tiny litttle screw hole showing and even that gets snagged on the gloves every now and then.
i would suggest doing one....leave it for at least 2-3 months then, if it seems like its going to not suck....so the rest. that way if its hell. you only have one to remove. :) |

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be a money grubbing bag here...but I am doing some research. Currently I am training as a tattoo artist and while I hone those skills I am wondering about taking piercing as I have a health care background and no issues with a big juicy needle! I am curious though, with the market getting a little over saturated (as tattooing also seems to be) I do see more job postings for piercers than anything. Being honest here, we all have bills to pay...does a full-time piercing job pay those bills (studio and otherwise)? Any information or advice...in regards to a market that is getting more popular and not in regards to greedily filling my pocket book? |

One of the tattoo artist I work with wants me to do microdermals on his knuckes where he is tattooed. I was wondering if anyone had done this before? If so can you give us some advice on how for him to take care of them since he will have to wear gloves everyday. What would you suggest? |

Clients don't seem to understand that there's usually a waiting time for those who run by appointments. There's months if not years before you get on to a programme like Miami Ink! You see people walk in and ask for a tattoo, who are told to come back in half an hour when something amazing will be drawn up. Now people expect the same from us! We're like sorry you'll have to book yourself in... Also you see huge backpieces drawn and put on in about 7 minutes worth of the show. Not only do people think we can do a large tattoo in 7 minutes but they expect a whole tattoo in one sitting! Have they not noticed that at the beginning of the tattoo it's sunny outside, in the next shot it's raining and Chris has a different beard, then the next minute it's night time!
More annoyingly I get asked every 5 minutes 'ohh.. have you seen that tattoo programme.. ohh what's it called where they're in miami... on that discovery channel...'
Don't get me wrong I think they're all fantastic artists... but I just wish these shows would give a better insight in to the time, price, and effort the artists go to!

if i couldnt get a taper through with minimal effort i would not stretch the person's ears...
the risk of tearing or them ending up with a nasty blow out is too high. the client should work on slowly stretching them over time and then only use the taper to help get the jewelry in....

I was just wondering if any of you seem to get more female, male, or really both as clients. I've found that women (all ages) feel more comfortable with a female piercer compared to a male. |

we suggest using vitamin e ointment, not vit.E oil or cream we found these tend to cause odd reactions with many, whereas the ointment works better, it contains only vitamin E and petroleum jelly, the petrolum jelly has been known to clog pores, some dont like suggesting these due to this, but if washed a few times a day it helps to prevent pores from clogging up. I really like it it keeps colors very vibrant, and vitamin E is really good for the skin in general. |
