PEOPLE ASK ME ALL THE TIME WHY I HAVE QUEENSRYCHE TATTOOED ON MY BACK...I ANSWER...SILENT LUCIDITY
THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER.........
ASIDE FROM THE REASONS THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK, THERE IS A SUPERIOR MEANING BEHIND THE LYRICS THEMSELVES.
BEING THAT I EXPERIENCE ASTRAL PROJECTION (YEA LAUGH ALL YOU WANT) AND LUCID DREAMING I FELT COMPELLED TO POST THIS BLOG AFTER READING A POST REGARDING THIS SONG IN A MUSIC FORUM I AM INVOLVED IN.
WE WERE DISCUSSING LYRICS AND MEANINGS AND HOW THEY ARENT ALWAYS WHAT THE NORMAL RADIO LISTENER WOULD THINK.
QUEENSRYCHE LIKE PINK FLOYD WRITES SONGS THAT GO DEEPER THAN THE SUPERFICIAL SURFACE MEANING AND WHAT YOU WOULD THINK. SO YOU MUST LISTEN HARDER AND GO BEYOND SINGING LYRICS.

This song is about Lucid Dreaming, which is a not-so-well understood state of sleep where you are dreaming but fully aware.
I think the child aspect, where they sing "Hush now child..." is the mentoring of someone new to the feeling, by someone capable of controlling the dream state. Throughout the song, the theme seems to be about this mentoring aspect of guiding someone on through the steps of dream control.
This tells me that there is some dimension of existence where people meet up, and the only way to leverage or experience this dimension is through "dream control", aka Lucid Dreaming.
When they sing that they saw the child there, and they were scared - and it was like a bad dream spinning in their head: that says that the mentor is witnessing the persons awakening in the dream state.
Ive had sleep paralysis all my life, and can relate to the fear aspect of waking up in a dream. The feeling of fear is overwhelming. You cant move, you cant say anything - but theres this intense feeling of a presence. Like there's someone else there. Theres also this intense spinning sensation, very real feeling.
Sleep Paralysis is the state that comes before the point of Lucid Dreaming. If you can overcome the fear long enough to stay concious, that is not go into a complete dream state, you can witness this new dimension that many have said contains complete enlightenment.
I think it was Queensryche's aim to oblige the listener to "meet them in the ether", or that magic, new dimension.
By the way, the BOOM right after he says "magic, new dimension" is the sound you hear between sleep paralysis and the lucid dream state. Sort of like a door slamming.
