'Smoke & Origination' The Review

Since I have been privileged to be an insider and as mentioned, a guest on 2 songs for 'Smoke & Origination', the New Album from Canadian Artist 'Christopher'. I have been given the opportunity to listen to the complete, mastered Album in it's entirety before it hits shelves later this fall.

I submit to you my review, a little glimpse into what you can expect.

A Brief, Personal History. I was first introduced to 'Wer Next Projekt' in September 2001, and became friends with the artist shortly there after. I remember listening to 'Wer Next Projekt'' on the way home September 11th 2001. I was moved beyond words. For the first time in my life, I found the surreal events of the day Paralleled through music. 'Wer Next Projekt' became a staple to counteract the tragedy and put it in perspective for me. For those fans who remembered that time, his altruistic actions touched many, including yours truly. That was our first look into the man behind the beauty.

Since then, I have gone from being a fan and huge supporter of his music, to a manager of 'Christopher' in late 2002. Having fallen in love with 'Wer Next Projekt' and watching the music grow, 'Smoke & Origination' has blown away all expectations I could have had for the New Album.

'Smoke & Origination' will not be received by ALL fans of 'Wer Next Projekt' looking for a revised version of his first widespread release. It has the raw emotional feel of 'Orchid' his rare, first self-released 'Demo' of sorts. When looking back at the first track on 'Wer Next Projekt', 'Nokturne', the seventeen-minute introduction to this phenomenal Canadian artist Christopher, actually pales in comparison to the first track of 'Smoke & Origination' titled "The Summoning Vector" Although not 17 minute epic; Clocking in at a mere 1 Minute, 26 seconds, it assaults your senses; then lulls you into Track 2 "This is Your Plague'. The opening of TIYP, is reminiscent of the beautiful ethnic chants and enchanting tribal drums found on 'Wer Next Projekt' it is the perfect beginning in what is in itself an epic album. The 1 Hour, 8 minute album flows in such a way, it engulfs you in it's embrace. The lyrics are succinct, yet enticing. It is a enchanting journey from beginning to end.

Deviating from 'Wer Next Projekt', where only three of the songs contain Lyrics ('Wakeuplove', 'Fall into It' & 'You're So Sexual'). 'Smoke & Origination' offers a cornucopia of powerful lyrics which invoke an array of emotions in the listener. Although equally hard to classify, 'Smoke & Origination' is a new level of aural brutal beauty. From the Surreal Vocals, Dynamic drums, Gorgeous dulcimer compositions, haunting choral work and the stunning Classical Guitar & Cello piece 'Purpose?' you are slipped into a stranglehold which carries you on to 'Derivative Hearts' and 'Again' Leaving you breathless and awaiting more. It encompasses a pulchritude which I have yet to find in any new release.

In 2001, I thought that the complexity of 'Wer Next Projekt' could not be topped. After hearing 'Smoke & Origination' I have found that this artist was only giving us a brief glimpse of what lies inside his complex mind. I am looking forward to more......
