Dreaming......
My dreams are a double-edged sword. They can propel me and inspire me, or they can hinder me and keep me too focused on the future and not present enough in the now. I read a book that explained why we should be present in the now to a much greater degree than when we imagine our futures and plan, or when we reflect on the past too much.
Now I do think that both anticipation and decisive action toward future goals is crucial to life. And I believe that learning the necessary lessons offered by past experiences is also key to not making the same mistakes; looking back is vital as well.

When we get stuck in the future or spend too much time in the past we are indeed stuck. It is the TODAY thought that really moves a person through time and creates and flows in the life energy of our existence.

Last week I did a tattoo on a woman, who brought her 15 year old daughter with her.. during the tattoo, the mom mentions to me that her daughter had been drunk at a party and a 19 year old had tattooed the letters BF on her arm. Mom asks if I would cover it up. The daughter did not volunteer to show what had been done. I glanced in her direction and asked if she WANTED to fix it.. she shrugged and looked like she didnt know.... "He's a friend of mine..." she states, and then became very quiet.

Later as I was just finishing up her mothers tattoo, she asked if I could take a look at it.

Here was my opportunity !

I leveled my gaze to meet her eyes, and said, "On one condition, dearie."

"What's that?" she asks.

"That you promise me you wont ever put yourself in a compromising situation like that again. The boy who tattooed you, did NOT do it out of respect for you. Think about finding a couple new friends who DO respect you.."

The girls eyes opened just a little more and her shoulders sloped like she realized that what I said was TRUE. It wasnt too cool to do that to a person when they're drunk. I guess before she thought it was okay... or it was ammunition against her mother...keeping it and wanting it was a rebellious statement, and one not easily dropped...

I look at the tattoo and start describing to her what we could do with it.. she is so interested and listens carefully as I hold her tiny arm and draw on her with my finger...

So then...

I tell her mom I think she should have to wait a year, and then I'll fix it. One summer. Her mom agrees. As they leave the shop I notice the girl smiling for the first time in two hours...something has changed.. a new realization.. a tiny seed planted. Hopefully, the girl will turn things around for herself.

Present in the NOW. Making the moments count.

Happy Monday all.... Sara

That was a great thing you did! I wish more people inthe world could sieze on these opportunities with others. That is something she will remember forever! Living in the present is the single most important thing any one person can do.

Sara Leila, you rock!

And, you know, corny as it sounds... it's called "the present", because that's what it is... a gift, for now - use it wisely.

Isn't it odd how the minute we change our perception changes, reality changes? If you believe you're inferior & don't deserve to be treated well, that's exactly what you get... Luckily, the converse is true too. Know what you deserve & it shall be yours.

Ok, just putting my power-ranger suit in the washer quickly.

Hugs (your friend), Lu.
