Contemplating: Spider webs |
A while back, I wanted a spiderweb tattoo on my elbow or shoulder. I had nixed the idea after finding out the racist overtones that it can carry in certain circles. Regardless of what it might mislead others to believe about me, I know that if I got that style of spiderweb tattoo I would never be able to look at it without thinking about that meaning.
However, I recentlly discovered another style & meaning to the spiderweb tattoo: My artist informed me of the traditional japanese spiderweb in the armpit tattoo, representing duality (a comon theme in many of the tattoos I have been looking at, including my Jap Trad Dragon/Phoenix piece). Additionaly, trying to find resources online that back this up (None outside of a murder mystery novel that takes place in Japan that mentions this tattoo), I found the symbolism of a spiderweb with a spider in it symbolizing that someone is a Drug Addict (an experence in my life of which the recovery from has shaped & directed the nature of many of the tattoo's I have contemplated getting).
All this has me rethinking the getting a spiderweb tattoo. This time, however, I'm thinking donig an underarm tattoo with a spider inside the web.
...and yes, I know it will hurt like nothing I have willingly known. |
