I'm 25 originally from Altoona, PA. I was wounded in Iraq and thats what brought me to DC. I'm a patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. My truck ran over an IED on a bomb clearing mission while I was in Iraq. The bomb should have killed me because of it's size. But I was lucky to live through the explosion and I'm thankful for it everyday. I was the gunner/bomb spotter in my truck and I'm just glad I told my best friend who was driving to drive that night, that way I was the one that got hurt and not him and I'm just glad it was me that got hurt and not one of my guys. But in hind sight it was my commanders fault that we got hurt because he wanted to drive 50mph while I was trying to look for bombs when your supposed to drive 10. And after the bomb hit us my commander left me on top of my burning hummer after he looked down at me and heard me yelling for help (what a dick bag) But hey theres no need to cry over spilled milk I'm alive and better yet my guys are unhurt and thats all that matters to me. On a better note haha,I love snowboarding (I can still rip up the mountain even after getting blown up haha.

First of all, thank you. Thank you so much for doing what you do and enduring what you have to keep me safe. You put your life on the line for our country, our freedom and our safety, and there is no one higher in my mind than those who do. Again, thank you.
I have a rare form of PTSD as well as TBI that's left me disabled for 10 years now. As much as life can suck ass, I like that I can look most soldiers in the face and say "I really do understand living with the aftermath." Most civilians have no clue. Heh. A lot of military personnel don't! You're not just a hero; you're a survivor. And again, thank you so much for putting yourself out there like that. I know I don't have what it takes.
Mikey was Air Force (shut up) for 10 years. When we met, he was working for NATO in Germany. I had the opportunity to join him there and then spend a bit of time at Landstuhl Army Medical Hospital with the guys on their way to Walter Reed. Getting to talk to, hang out with, and help those with PTSD was incredible. If I could figure out a way to do that forever, I would.
If there's anything in my power that I could do to help you, I'd be honored. Thanks for the add... I'm so sorry your commander failed you and your soldiers. |

Walter Reed is an awesome place - my husband and i both had surgery there - so .... well yeah getting blown up in iraq is a way better story than getting my gallbladder out but still .. we have a hospital in common :D |
