The Dominion Derby Girls is an all-female flat track roller derby league formed with the purpose of promoting the sport of roller derby and giving back to the community. We are a non profit, tax exempt organization that donates volunteer time and proceeds from bouts to charitable causes in the Hampton Roads region.
The DDG follows all rules and regulations of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association and is a proud member of the WFTDA. Above all, we are an amateur athletic organization, priding itself on the strength and diversity of its all-female skaters. As such, we have a rigorous training and practice schedule in order to be able to participate in national competition.
The DDG is run by the skaters, for the skaters. Today's roller derby puts a high speed, adrenaline rushed twist on the roller derby of the past. No longer owned by "the man," today's roller derby leagues are often skater owned and operated. They skate on a flat track, and their game play puts an emphasis on speed, agility, strategy, and above all - athleticism. Flat track rules are standardized by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association and boasts 66 leagues as members, including the Dominion Derby Girls! We are proud to be a part of the newest incarnation of roller derby and showing our community that we are tough, no holds barred athletes. Roller derby is an amazing sport, full of thrills, spills, and hard hits.

How do you play? Flat track rules are a little different from the banked track rules your Grandpa and Grandma remember. Here's a down and dirty guide on how to watch a bout:
The BLOCKERS form the main body of the pack. A maximum of four Blockers from each team are allowed on the track during play. They play a key role in determining the position of the pack and keeping the pack formed. Blockers play a defensive role for their teams. They attempt to hinder the progress of the opposing team's Jammer and defend their team's Jammer from the defensive maneuvers of the opposing team. They may also directly assist their team's Jammer on trips through the pack. Blockers do not wear helmet covers.
The PIVOTS play a key role in determining the pace of the pack. A maximum of one Pivot from each team is allowed on the track during play. In certain circumstances, a Pivot may take over the position of Jammer for her team in a maneuver known as Passing the Star. The Pivot is a specialized class of Blocker—they are Blockers in all senses and practices, with the additional ability to receive a Star Pass. Pivots wear stripes helmet covers
The JAMMER'S role is to make her way through the pack, lap the pack, and pass through the pack as many times as she chooses in a jam to score points for her team. A maximum of one Jammer from each team is allowed on the track during play. Lead Jammer is a strategic position established on the Jammers' initial pass through the pack during each jam. The Lead Jammer is the first Jammer to legally pass the foremost blocker in play, having already legally passed all other Blockers. The Lead Jammer has the ability to call off the jam by placing her hand repeatedly in her hips. Jammers wear star helmet covers.

| About Whom I Want to Meet: |
Fans, Skaters & SPONSORS!
WE ARE ACTIVELY RECRUITING! We're looking for women at least 18 years old, who have primary health coverage. Basic skating knowledge is not required but it is a plus! We can teach you everything you need to know, but if it's been a while, we recommend you get out and skate as much as you can. The more you skate, the better you get.
